My Thought:
This book was on my To Be Read List for a couple of months. I’m so happy that I read this book the Characters where truly amazing, I love Henrietta she is a take no crap from anyone kind of girl who can basically turn into Flames!!! This book was very well written I’m so happy to share with my 13 year old daughter wants to read it now. The only thing that did nag at me when reading this book was the fact that at times I felt like it was a little drawn out or there were parts of the story that really didn’t fit well together. Since this is book 1 in the series I’m sure a lot of my unanswered questions will be addressed in the next book which I will be reading I can’t wait to see what happens next to all the characters.

Star Rating:
I give A Shadow Bright and Burning an overall star rating of 4 1/2 Stars I give the Cover 5 Stars!

The Angel of Forest Hill

What’s Inside: The Angel of Forest Hill

A time of anticipation. A season of miracles.

Because of Joel’s impossible situation, twenty-one-year-old Rose must sacrifice everything. As days pass into years in the midst of the beautiful hills, the laughter of children, and God’s providence—is it too much for Rose to hope for love in return?
An amazing journey toward love and belonging, filled with the wonder of the season of Christ’s birth.

When Old Order Amish Rose Kurtz is asked to leave her family, travel deep into West Virginia, and help Joel Dienner with his children in the wake of tragedy, the quiet young woman recognizes a home where she might find kindness instead of criticism and hope replacing harsh words. She agrees to stay in Forest Hill and become Joel’s wife for the sake of his family needs, but their marriage is to be a partnership, one built from need, not love and affection.

As the years pass, Rose continues to beckon Joel to join life again, to take joy in his growing children, and to awaken his heart to the possibility of new love. Joel hopes that Rose can move beyond deep-rooted hurts to see the beautiful Christmas ahead, their season. But will the arrival of a beautiful widow and a series of misunderstandings reverse how far Rose and Joel have come?

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved this book my heart was breaking for Rose I could completely understand why she felt the way she did her upbringing was horrible she never truly knew what love was from her own family that is why she second guess everything even her own feelings. Then we have Joel who lost the love of his life not knowing how he is going to make it with 3 very small children. I could not put this book down I read it in one sitting! I love how no matter what the situation looks like all you need to is to trust in God an he will bless you just like he did for Rose & Joel just in time for Christmas.

Star Rating:

Overall I give The Angel of Forest Hill 5 Stars it was beautiful written an pulled on my heart strings from the very first page.

Boys Among Men by Johnathan Abrams

What’s Inside:

The definitive, never-before-told story of the prep-to-pro generation, those basketball prodigies who from 1995 to 2005 made the jump directly from high school to the NBA.

When Kevin Garnett shocked the world by announcing that he would not be attending college—as young basketball prodigies were expected to do—but instead enter the 1995 NBA draft directly from high school, he blazed a trail for a generation of teenage basketball players to head straight for the pros. That trend would continue until the NBA instituted an age limit in 2005, requiring all players to attend college or another developmental program for at least one year.

Over that decade-plus period, the list of players who made that difficult leap includes some of the most celebrated players of the modern era—Garnett, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Tracy McGrady, and numerous other stars. It also includes notable “busts” who either physically or mentally proved unable to handle the transition. But for better or for worse, the face of the NBA was forever changed by the prep-to-pro generation.

In compelling, masterfully crafted prose, Boys Among Men goes behind the scenes and draws on hundreds of firsthand interviews to paint insightful and engaging portraits of the most pivotal figures and events during this time. Award-winning basketball writer Jonathan Abrams has obtained remarkable access to the key players, coaches, and other movers and shakers from that time, and the result is a book packed with rare insights and never-before-published details about this chapter in NBA history. Boys Among Men is a thrilling, informative, must-read for any basketball fan.

My Thoughts:

Boys Among Men is a great read for any Basketball sports fan! Abrams did an excellent job getting all the facts in order. I do agree with a lot Abrams had to say in this book the behind the scenes info the NBA stories were truly amazing. I love how in-depth Abrams went when sharing Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant even Bill Willoughby stories. I love the fact that even though Abrams kept his information in chronological order the stories were not if that makes sense. I really feel this book has opened my eyes to a lot of things that I wasn’t aware of that players had to deal with.

Star Rating:

I give Boys Among Men 5 Stars

All But Normal

What’s Inside:
Growing up, Shawn Thornton’s life was anything but normal, but then, so was his mother. After waking from a coma following a car crash, Beverly Thornton’s once sweet and gentle disposition had been replaced by violent mood swings, profanity laced tirades, and uncontrollable fits of rage. Inside the Thornton house, floors and countertops were piled high with dirty laundry and garbage, because Bev was unable to move well enough to clean. Dinners were a Russian roulette of half cooked meat, spoiled milk, and foods well past their expiration dates. A moment of frustration might prompt her to hurl a knife at Shawn, his brother, Troy, or their dad or to vehemently cuss them out, only to shower them with love and affection moments later as though nothing had happened, and God help the family cat!On several occasions, Bev even tried to jump out of the car on the highway while Shawn and his brother struggled to keep her inside. Yet this same woman was also a devoted Bible reader, Sunday school teacher, and friend to the elderly, poor, and marginalized wherever she went. How the same woman could be a saint one minute and a nightmare the next was a constant source of frustration for the family. Then one day, after decades of embarrassing outbursts, a surprise discovery finally helps the Thornton family come to grips with Bev’s mysterious condition and brings Shawn to a startling realization that changes the course of his life forever. A heartwarming coming of age story, All But Normal is a powerful reminder that sometimes the broken people in our lives are the ones who need fixing the least.
